Request a School Program

*Programs are offered by donation. Donations help support our program materials & field work. We are a fully volunteer-based non-profit society. If a donation is a hardship for your school community, please let us know.

We'll try to respond to your request within a week or two. Please reach out by email if you have questions.

Our school programs begin with an online narrated powerpoint or video to help you orient your class to the local ecosystem that provides some short stories of local flora and fauna as well as tips to help students interact gently with the environment. Online resources including narrated PPTs are available at the bottom of this page.

Once you have requested a program, a volunteer will work with you to try to find a date, time when a volunteer is available that suits your class for a field trip at an agreed upon location (typically Elgin Heritage Park for birding and the Crescent Beach or White Rock Beach area for marine exploration)

Approximately 3 weeks before the field trip, a volunteer will arrange to drop off of an in-class teaching resource kit that the teacher will sign for and return on the day of the field trip.

The field trip will be guided by an experienced naturalist with the help of the classroom teacher and parent volunteers.

Our programs are offered by donation and based on volunteer availability. Donations go to cover program expenses and support field work in Boundary Bay.

Resource kit drop off: A volunteer will deliver the resource kit will ask for the teacher at the office. Please note that the teacher booking the resource kit must be available to sign a confirmation of delivery at the school's office.

Resource kit drop off: In general, select the times of the day that you are available for resource kit delivery. A confirmation email with the delivery date will be sent 1-2 weeks prior to kit delivery.
It is recommended to engage with the material in the resource kits prior to the field trip to help students connect with the program! More educational material can be found on our website: https://www.birdsonthebay.ca/educational-guides-brochures
