Community Outreach Coordinator & Volunteers

We need a volunteer event coordinator who enjoys people and networking to help us register for events and coordinate the schedule with volunteers to attend with display materials. We attend about 8 - 10 events and host 2-3 annually. Ideally the events coordinator resides in the South Surrey area for quick access to the FoSBS office.

Volunteers needed for these upcoming events:

BEACH HERO WALKS

The Beach Heroes and Educational Outreach volunteers have been busy through May and June taking class field trips to the beach. Unfortunately there are dozens of class field trips daily Mon-Fri in June to South Surrey beaches. So, thousands of kids overturn rocks and chase shore crabs. They innocently collect them in their buckets. Few know that crabs have gills, so breathe water. The crabs suffocate in the buckets. Kids will be out enjoying the beach all summer long.

If you have a few hours to spare, you could help save some crabs (and worms, birds, salmon and whales!) by joining Carolyn Prentice on a stroll to introduce people to the resident creatures of the beach. The dates and times are mostly mid-week and Carolyn sets the schedule according to daytime low tides. Fisherpeople and crabbers are especially desired as we often speak to people harvesting crabs, fish and shellfish.

Contact Carolyn Prentice at beachhero.fosb@gmail.com or call 604-536-3552.
